William H. Potter, age 85, of Garnavillo, IA, died early Saturday morning July 9, 2011, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital surrounded by family. He was born in Buffalo Center Iowa on May 5, 1926 to Thomas J and Alta (Eikenberry) Potter. William received his education (one of three people in his class) from the Independent Country School in Buffalo Center. On March 15, 1947, William was united in marriage with Janann Marock in Dubuque. Together they farmed and raised eight children. Janann passed away on March 19, 1975. Later William married Janet Marock and gained two step children. Over many years, William enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising his children, being outdoors, farming, collecting tools and traveling in the motor home. He is survived by his wife Janet; children, Lottie (Gary) Rose, Deborah (LaVerne) Alderson, Rebecca (Michael) Lehman, William Jr. (Mary) Potter, Benton (Gail) Potter, Annette (Kendall) Albrecht, Daniel (Dorinda) Potter and Theodore (Justina) Potter; 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Velma Severson and Bertha Julius; step daughter, Sheri (John) Risley; step daughter in law Cindy Long and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Janann; one sister Darlene; five brothers, Richard, Benton, Thomas, Gaylen, Kenny Potter and one step son Greg Long.Visitation: Sunday 4:00 - 7:00 P.M.
