Timothy Francis Driscoll, 89, of Cascade and formerly of Marengo, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at River Bend Retirement Community in Cascade.

Visitation will be held from 9 – 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, in Dyersville, Iowa. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Military honors will be held outside of church following the mass.

He was born on August 16, 1937, at the family home outside of Belfast, Iowa, the son of Timothy Francis and Margaret Rita (Burke) Driscoll. Tim was the youngest of ten children. Tim never had the opportunity to meet his father, who passed away six months before Tim was born. When Tim was about six years old, his family moved from the farm to Donnellson, Iowa. As a young boy, Tim spent much of his time next door with Miss Minnie Lutz and her brother, John, who took him under their wing. Some of Tim’s fondest childhood memories were of Miss Lutz asking him each week what kind of cookies he wanted, and John gathering Tim and his friends in the back of his truck to take them swimming in Fort Madison. On the way home, John would give each of the boys 25 cents for an ice cream cone.

In the summer of 1957, Tim met the love of his life, Mary E. Hoenig, at the Lee County Fair. He asked Mary to go on a ride, then asked her out for the following night. Before long, Tim could be found at Mary’s house most every night. The two were married on November 29, 1958, and together they raised three children, Julie, Sheri, and Jeff.

Tim served in the United States Army from 1959 until 1962. He worked at the Farm Service Elevator in Donnellson and for the Iowa Department of Transportation before pursuing his dream of becoming an Iowa State Trooper. In 1966, that dream became a reality, and Tim and his family moved from Donnellson to Marengo.

Tim proudly served as an Iowa State Trooper from 1966 until his retirement in 1993. In 1985, he had the opportunity to fly the Iowa State Patrol airplane, something he thoroughly enjoyed, and he continued flying until his retirement. Retirement did not slow Tim down for long. With his friend Les Hooper, he went on to serve as a Deputy U.S. Marshal at the Federal Courthouse in Cedar Rapids from 1993 until 2004.

Tim was very involved in the Marengo community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion and volunteered with the Marengo Fire Department and Iowa County Ambulance. He valued the friendships he made throughout his life and enjoyed being involved in his community.

Tim and Mary enjoyed traveling together. They started out traveling by motorhome before eventually spending six months of the year in Yuma, Arizona, and six months in Marengo. They made many wonderful friends during their time in Yuma, including other Marengo residents who also spent their winters there. When they could no longer make the trip to Yuma, Tim and Mary settled in Marengo full-time.

Tim was an avid walker and walked every day for many years until his legs would no longer support him. Later, he and Mary could often be seen riding around town together on their golf cart. In 2020, Tim and Mary moved to Highland Ridge in Williamsburg, then to Dyersville, and eventually to Cascade. Family was always the most important part of Tim’s life. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He loved watching his family grow and leaves behind countless memories that will be cherished for generations.

Those left to cherish Tim’s memory include his wife of nearly 68 years, Mary; his children, Julie (Randy) Bauer of Walford, Sheri (Tim) Rice of Lehigh Acres, Florida, and Jeff (Carrie) Driscoll of Dyersville; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Josh) Hunt, Elizabeth (Travis) Merrifield, Jason (Beth) Rice, Christine (Jason) Irvin, Vince Rice, Cara (Joe) Recker, Marissa (Ethan) Brehm, Devon (Becca) Driscoll, Creighton Koelker, Colin Koelker, Addison Koelker, and Easton Koelker; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; in-laws, Dorothy Taeger, Joan Driscoll, and Raymond Hoenig.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Roy Lowenberg, Sr.; parents-in-law, Joseph and Elsie Hoenig; six sisters and three brothers; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; daughter-in-law, Amy Driscoll; grandson, Bradley Bauer; and great-grandson, Gavin Rice.

Tim lived a life of service—to his country, his community, and most importantly, his family. He was proud of the life he and Mary built together and the family they created. His stories, his sense of adventure, his dedication to others, and the many memories he made with those he loved will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Tim will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

The family would like to thank the staff at River Bend Retirement Community and Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate care.
