Thomas Ament

Thomas G. Ament, 79, of Gilbertville, Iowa and formerly of Dyersville and Worthington died Monday, September 12, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa from complications of COPD. Friends may call from 3 - 8 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2011, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. and and American Legion/V.F.W. Service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2011, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in St. Paul Cemetery, Worthington, Iowa. Officiating will be Rev. Henry Huber. Tom was born August 9, 1932, the son of Harold and Loretta (Huber) Ament. He married Joan Geistkemper on August 1, 1955, in Dyersville, Iowa. Tom was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, a collector of John Deere farm toys and enjoyed supporting his grandchildrens' activities and events. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife Joan, 4 children: Steve (Donna) of Bellevue, NE, Wayne (Diane) of Ames, IA, Denise Moore of North Liberty, IA, and Tim (Patsy) of Gilbertville, IA; grandchildren: Jonathan, Jacque (fiancé Mike) and Laura Ament, Garrett and Aaron Ament, Vanessa, Matthew and Nicholas Moore, Melissa & Tony Ament; sisters: Verna (Alfred) Geistkemper of Savanna, IL, Norma (David) Simmons of Yorba Linda, CA, Lois Ament of Fullerton, CA; his step-mother-in-law, Delores Deutmeyer of Dyersville; in-laws:Ethel Pins of Earlville, IA, Dorothy (Harold) Lake of Manchester, IA, Ray (Milly) Geistkemper and Daniel (Sandy) Geistkemper both of Dyersville. He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws: Elmer Geistkemper, Herman Geistkemper and Eleanor Hoeger.
