Ruth Ann Leick

LUXEMBURG, IOWA

Ruth Ann Leick, 92, died at Guttenberg Care Center on September 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Ruth was born in Luxemburg on January 26, 1934, to Camillus and Viola Meyers. She attended Catholic school in Luxemburg through her sophomore year. On August 20, 1957, she was united in marriage to Merlin J. Leick at Holy Trinity Church in Luxemburg, Iowa.

Visitation for Ruth will be from 9:30 - 10:30 am on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Church cemetery.

Along with being a devoted wife and mother, Ruth assisted her husband Merlin with his lawn and garden business, Leick Small Engine Repair. Later, her son Robert, “Bob”, took over the business and she continued to help in the shop throughout the remainder of her life. She took great pride in her flower garden and tending to her birds. Ruth, also, loved going fishing and was an avid football fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs. She was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.

Ruth is survived by her four sons and two daughters: Merlin F. (Deborah) Leick of Peosta, James (Paula) Leick of Durango, Cheryl Heery of Iowa City, Ronald (Peggy) Leick, Robert (Connie) Leick, and Jean (David) Kemp all of Dyersville; her twelve grandchildren: Steven (Marie) Leick, Sarah (A.J.) Fitzsimmons, Michelle (Jared) Vetsch, Katie (Jon) Davick, Rachel (Charlie) Goetzinger, Ryan (Riley) Leick, Courtney (fiancé Michael Turner) Leick, Samantha (Cody) Olson, Tyler (friend Anna McLaughlin) Leick, Tiffany (Tyler) Springer, Marissa (fiancé Dillon Hiatt) Kemp, and Nicole Kemp; nineteen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Rosemary Mueller and Romana Katauskas; sister-in-law, Betty Leick; and brothers-in-law Arnold Leick and Robert Bonert.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Camillus and Viola; her husband, Merlin; her son, Gerald; daughter-in-law, Joan Leick; son-in-law, Scot Heery; three sisters, Vickie Meyers, Grace Kann, and Leora Bonert; two brothers, Joseph and Robert Meyers; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ellerbach, Lucille Stoffel, Irma Schrobilgen, Marina Hess, Florence Kennicker, Rosemary Tharp, and Linda Meyers; brothers-in-law, Ernest Ellerbach, Irvin Stoffel, Melvin Schrobilgen, Jack Hess, Leonard Leick, Richard Tharp, Clarence Kennicker, Herb Kann, Henry Mueller, and Anthony Katauskas; one niece, Lisa Schwarte; two nephews, Edwin Ellerbach and Steve Kennicker.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kahn, Dr. Herman, and Hospice of Dubuque and St. Croix Hospice, as well as the staff at the Guttenberg Care Center, for their support and care of Ruth Ann in the final days of her life.
