ANAMOSA, IOWA Michael L. Arthur, 68, of Anamosa died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Manor Care Health Services in Dubuque after a long illness. Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at the United Church of Monticello. Rev. Ed Moreano will officiate. Burial will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter, Iowa at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013. Michael was born Nov. 2, 1944, in Winchester, IN the son of Ivan and Florence (Williams) Arthur and was raised in Union City and attended Union City-Wayne Community High School. He served in the Army in Vietnam from 1965-1967 and returned to Union City. He moved to Columbus, OH in 1971. Michael was very active in Scouting for over 25 years, having initialized the Nagatem program for youth and the Blackfoot program for adults, both of which are still continuing in Columbus area Scouting today. On May 27, 1989, he married Helen Kieffer Ehrich in Columbus. They moved to Winchester Indiana in 1996, and then to Iowa in 2010. While living in Winchester he was an active member of the Randy Players of Union City with whom he performed in Arsenic and Old Lace and On Golden Pond. He is a life member of Union City John Stoops VFW Post and the American Legion Posts in Winchester and and Anamosa. He and Helen are members of the United Church of Monticello. He is survived by his wife, Helen, a brother, Philip of Union City, OH, a sister-in-law, Donna (Richard) Willenbring of Luxemburg, IA and a brother-in-law, Ralph (Sue) Kieffer of Dubuque, IA; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a step-daughter, Jill Michelle Ehrich in 1993, 2 sisters-in-law: Beverly Arthur and Katherine (Jerome) Manders, and a brother-in-law, Eldon (Buellah) Kieffer.
