Mary Berns

Mary Lynn (Burr) Berns was born the daughter of Lonnie and Anita (Haupt) Burr on October 17, 1942 in Prairie du Chien Wis. She was called home to heaven, to be with her true love Tony on Sunday, August 1, 2010. Mary graduated from St. Marys School in Prairie du Chien Wis in 1960. She was united in marriage with Anthony "Tony" Berns on February 27, 1964 in Galena ILL. Together they had two children, Richard and Amy. Mary also loved and cherished her three step children, Anne, Pat and Dan. Being a homemaker and taking care of Tony was a full time job for Mary but she also managed to help run the office at Tonys 66 Station and she worked numerous jobs as well over the years. Mary was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary in Guttenberg, the Rosary Society in North Buena Vista and she enjoyed gardening. Her husband, children and grandchildren were the love of her life. Mary always looked forward to each and every family get together they had through the years. Her family was the inspiration to that smile she wore on her face that many of us will always remember her by. Mary will be forever loved and cherished by her two children, Richard (Rashelle) Berns of Phoenix, Ariz. and Amy (Dan) Brandstetter of Le Claire, IA; three step children, Anne (Bill) Bross of Houston TX, Pat (Tom) Kriz of Iowa City and Dan (Merry) Berns of Des Moines, IA; eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild on the way; five siblings, Jerry (Carol) Burr of Saginaw Mich, Julie Knueppel of Onalaska, Wis, Connie Burr of Sun Prairie Wis, Bob Burr and Mike Burr both of Prairie du Chien Wis; best friend, Karilyn Smith and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Butch.In Lieu of flowers, plants, statuary, benches and all types of gifts, Mary would like memorials to be given to the new Guttenberg Municipal Hospital project.
