NORTH BUENA VISTA, IOWA

Lou Ann E. Schmerbach, 77, of North Buena Vista, Iowa passed away Monday, May 19, 2025, at her home in North Buena Vista.

Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Hall in North Buena Vista, Iowa. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 9 - 10 a.m. at the hall prior to funeral services.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Buena Vista, Iowa with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Kwaku Ameyaw will officiate with Deacon Jim Pfaffly assisting.

Lou Ann was born on August 11, 1947, in Mcgregor, IA, daughter of George and Georgianna (Brown) Beckett. She married Reynold Schmerbach on August 28, 1965. Together they farmed in North Buena Vista for 60 years. Lou Ann had a gentle way about her, steady, kind and full of grace. She didn’t seek the spotlight, but her warmth filled every room she entered. She found joy in the little things such as brunch at the Village Inn, also one of her favorites, Breitbach’s Country Dining (shout out to Mike for always taking care of them), a hot cup of decaf coffee and especially a winning streak at the casino.

Survivors include her husband, Reynold; children: Nick Schmerbach, Pam (Alan) Breitbach, Brett Schmerbach and Becky (Marty) Topping; grandchildren: Nicole (Colton) Connelly, Mitchell, Victoria (Kyle Cleary) and Isabel Breitbach, Dillan (Brylyn Clute), Abby (Hunter Lazar) and Katie Schmerbach, Otto, Eva, Haddie and Milo Topping; a great-grandson, Boston Schmerbach; in-laws: Myrene Heiderscheit, Maurice (Elaine) Schmerbach, Richard (Donna) Schmerbach and Nancy Beckett.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Anna Mae (Leroy) Meyer, Marlyn (Carol) Beckett, Emma Jean (Serenus) Eglseder, William Beckett and Carson Beckett; in-laws: Robert (Dolly) Schmerbach,Betty (Jack) McPoland, Marvin Schmerbach, Shirley (Tony) Meyer and Edward Heiderscheit.

Thank you to all the special people that have helped in caring for her throughout the last year and a half and special thanks to the Holy Cross/North Buena Vista Fire Departments for their care & support.
