Lester R. Hefel, age 71, of Holy Cross, IA, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 3, 1943, on the family farm near North Buena Vista, the 10th of 14 children to Thomas and Florence Hefel. Lester received his education locally while helping out on the home farm. He later served his country proudly in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. After he was honorably discharged and returned back to Iowa, Lester was united in marriage with Leila Moser on April 20, 1968, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Buena Vista. This union blessed them with four children. Lester was a member of the American Legion, served on the board of directors for the USDA and was a dedicated member of the Chycan Head Yacht Club. He was a faithful serviceman, enjoyed socializing with others, was a very PROUD farmer and most of all, he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. One of Lesters favorite quotes was; Thank God First, Thank a Farmer Second. The "Green Man" had an enormous appreciation and respect for farmers and all they do to provide for the people on earth and he remarkably made that known to his fellow farmers. Lester will be forever loved and cherished by his wife of 46 years, Leila; four children, Tina (Jason) Kuehl, Donna (Jeff) Brimeyer, Andrew (Shawna) Hefel, Thomas (Christine) Hefel; grandchildren; Sadie and Joseph Abitz, Natalie and Matthew Brimeyer, Daniel Hefel, Jacob Hefel, Makayla Mihalakis and Tessa Noethe; siblings, Emmet (Darlene) Hefel, Catherine Moser, Evelyn (Jim) McGuire, Norma (John) Latteyer, Dan (Sue) Hefel, Bob (Jeanne) Hefel and many other relatives and friends.
