COLESBURG, IOWA
Lawson L. Waterman, 85, of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at his home.
Visitation will be held 1 -3 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Morris Funeral Home in Guttenberg, Iowa. Memorial Service will commence at 3 p.m., with burial to follow at Mt. Harmony Cemetery in Elkport, Iowa.
Lawson along with his twin sister, Lorna were born on March 18, 1941, to Lawrence and Alice (Brandeburg) Waterman in Elkport, Iowa. Growing up he worked at his parent’s general store in Elkport and graduated from Central High School in Elkader, Iowa. After graduation, he worked various jobs and later enlisted in the army. While stationed in Germany, he met his future wife, Anni Leeb. After two years in the army, he moved back to Elkport and continued to correspond with Anni and somehow convinced her to move to the states. She eventually moved to the US and they married on May 27, 1967.
Five years later, their daughter Heidi was born. During his time, he was offered the chance to enter into a banking career; starting with Farmers Savings Bank in Colesburg and retiring from Fidelity Bank and Trust in Luxemburg. Upon retiring, Lawson and Anni would go antiquing (which meant he was the driver). He loved to golf and travel to various courses throughout northeast Iowa with his group of friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Heidi (Jeremy Smith) Waterman, brother-in-law, Bob Graybill, and niece, Heather (Jeremy) Rinderknecht.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Anni, and his sister, Lorna Graybill.
Thank you dad for your kindness, patience, and love even in times when I didn’t deserve it and I will miss you so much.
