GUTTENBERG, IOWA
Laural “Dian” Meskimen, 83, of Guttenberg, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Guttenberg Care Center with her family at her side.
A private family service will be held in beloved memory of Dian
Dian was born on September 5, 1942, in Spencer, Iowa, daughter of Cecil and Lucille (Peppmeier) McFarland. In 1958 she moved to Farmersburg, Iowa and married Gordon Nelson. Dian and Gordon moved to Esmann Island in 1959. They had 4 children, Debbra, Rebecca, Gordon and Scott. In 1985 Dian married Guy Meskimen. Together they traveled and attended countless sporting events for their grandchildren.
Dian fiercely protected her family; she was the swim oceans, climb mountains and fight grizzly bears kind of mom and grandma. She was known to the whole town as “Grandma Guy”. Dian loved rock and roll music, going out to eat, a good VO and water in a tall glass, manicured nails, diamonds and ice cream. She was quick witted, a little spicy with her comments and always reminded you who the Queen was.
The last few years as Dian’s health declined, her great grandsons brought her so much joy. Nightly phone calls were always centered around how they were. She lit up when they came to visit her.
Dian is survived by her children: Debbra Czarnecki, Rebecca Nelson (Richard) and Gordon (Cindy) Nelson; grandchildren: Chad (Carissa) Clinton, Neal Clinton, Taylor Nelson, Sabrina Nelson (Keiran); great grandsons: Charlie, Cooper and Cohen Clinton; half-siblings: Ron, Deena, Jane, Ernie, Mae, Cecil and Sandra McFarland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy, son, Scott Nelson, grandson, Michael Clinton, son-in-law, Mark Czarnecki, her parents, a brother, Phillip Williams and a sister, Sandra Williams.
The family would like to thank the Guttenberg Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion. We will be eternally grateful to them for being mom’s family when we couldn’t be with her.
Kramer-Morris Funeral Home (Dyersville, Guttenberg, Garnavillo, Monticello, Holy Cross) is assisting the family and online condolences may be left for the family at www.kramer-morrisfuneralhome.com.
