MONTICELLO, IOWA
John T. “Bud” Coyle, 96, of Monticello, Iowa, died peacefully June 6, 2026, of complications of heart failure at his home surrounded by his children.
Visitation will be held from 9 – 11 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Monticello, Iowa. Memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello, Iowa, with military honors accorded by Cascade American Legion Post #528.
Bud was born Aug 31, 1929, at the family farm in Bernard, Iowa, to George and Loretta (Hardiman) Coyle. He began working as a farmhand for area farmers at age 12 and then in various other jobs as a young adult. As a farmhand, he was especially grateful to Catherine (Irv) Recker for treating him like a son. He married Roberta Wilcox on Jan. 30, 1952. They celebrated their 60th anniversary shortly before her death on Feb. 13, 2012. He served in the Army 516th Signal Corps 1952-54 in Austria during the Korean War. He and Bert opened their own business, Coyle’s Plumbing and Heating, in 1961. Their son, Gary, joined the business in 1976. Bud continued working into his early 90s.
Bud belonged to St. Matthias Catholic Church and American Legion Post #528 in Cascade. He was a volunteer firefighter in Monticello. He enjoyed playing slots at area casinos, attending reunions of his Army unit, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his children: Lynn (Bob) Dotterweich, Gary Coyle, Terry Coyle, Lori (Larry) Jensen; grandchildren: Angie (Corey) Fairley, Chris (Robynn) Westphal, Cory (Michelle) Westphal, Abby (Nick) Abramovich, Mitch (Allie) Jensen; great-grandchildren: Austin Fairley, Aubree Fairley, Logan (Holly) Westphal, Caleb (Alyssa) Westphal, Brock Westphal, Courtney (Ryan) Konrardy, Byron and Clara Abramovich, Reagan and Arwen Jensen, Reese and Riley Evans, Josh, Rachel and Caleb Miller; great-great-grandchildren: Lucy Westphal, Naomi and Jonah Westphal; brother, Joe (Marie) Coyle; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter-in-law, and eight brothers and sisters.
