Elizabeth "Betty" A. Theisen, 77, of Holy Cross, Iowa died Friday, August 26, 2011, at Oak Crest Manor in the arms of her loving family. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2011, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 30 2011, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at a later date. Rev. Ray Burkle will officiate with Rev. Al Vorwald concelebrating. Betty was born near Asbury on August 29, 1933, the daughter of Leo and Elizabeth (Finzel) Herbst. She married the love of her life, John Bill Theisen on November 17, 1953, in Asbury, Iowa. They were members of the Holy Cross Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. Betty was a gardener who loved to can the fruits of her labor. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She was also an avid Cub fan. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Bill, her children: Diane (Dave) Ronek of Epworth, Cheri (Joe) Oglesby of Cuba City, Wis., Jack (Jodee) Theisen of Holy Cross, Lori (Rich) Oglesby of Cuba City, Wis. and Lisa (Randy) Wolf of Dallas Center, Iowa; grandchildren: Renee (fiance Jordan) Ambrosy, Sarah Ambrosy, Jeremy (fiance Jennifer) Ambrosy, Brandon Oglesby, Amy (Dan) McGovern, Alli, Jeff, and Hanna Theisen, Jason, Tanner, Sadie, Sawyer, Tessa, Jayna and Carson Oglesby, Lucas and Miranda Wolf; great grandchildren, Maggie and Griffin McGovern; sisters: Rosie Ehrlich, Anita (Jim) Gulyash, Sylvia (Ken) Dietz; brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Toots Herbst , Leo Abitz, Rita Theisen and Mary Kay (Bill) Bohr, all of Dubuque, Iowa and Jim (Shirley) Theisen of Holy Cross, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a son, Jeff in infancy; her parents, Leo and Elizabeth Herbst, and parents-in-law, Cecilia and Lawrence Theisen, a brother, Leo J. Herbst; sisters and brothers-in-law: Florence (Charles) Weiland, Arlene (Charlie) Chapman and LaVon Abitz, and Tom Ehrlich We would like to express a sincere thank you to Betty's extended families at Oak Crest Manor, Tri-State Dialysis, and to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Edna, for the years, months and weeks of dedicated compassionate care. Memorials are preferred.
