Douglas W. Kolek

HOPKINTON, IOWA

Douglas Wesley Kolek, born at home in Mt Vernon, Iowa January 8, 1947, to Wesley Kolek and Lilyan Nodruft, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Finley hospital in Dubuque, Iowa due to complications with dementia.

Douglas was married and then divorced from Diann Jacobson and later married Diane Flannagan-Benter on January 13, 1990.

Doug spent his life truck driving both over the road and locally when he wasn't at home with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Diane; a son, Keelan (Brooke) Kolek; four step-sons: Brendan, Devin (Lisa), Conan (Lacy) and Eoin (Emily); seven grandchildren: Kira and Brayden Kolek, Jade, Raely, Ivy, Iris and Hazel Benter; sister, Pat (Keith) Mitchell; and a brother, Bob (Jean) Kolek; in-laws David (Diane) Flannagan and Dennis (Diane) Flannagan.

Doug is preceded in death by his brothers: Curtis and Gary Kolek; and a nephew, Erin Mitchell.

Memorial service will be held at Hopkinton Community Church at 11 a.m., Thursday October 15, 2026, with the inurnment at Hopkinton City Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Community Center.
