NORTH BUENA VISTA, IOWA
Donald C. Ludovissy, 85, of North Buena Vista, Iowa, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2025, at his home.
Visitation will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Buena Vista.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Kwaku Ameyaw will officiate with Rev. Marvin Bries concelebrating.
Don was born April 27, 1940, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, son of Henry and Bertha (Hefel) Ludovissy. He married Mary Katherine Breitbach on August 8, 1959, in North Buena Vista. Together they owned & enjoyed operating Hanks Bar in Buenie for over 60 years all while raising 10 children.
Don graduated from Holy Cross High in 1959. In 1960, he started at John Deere and would retire in 1990. He owned and operated the family tavern in North Buena Vista, that was founded by his parents in 1937. He worked several jobs throughout his life; logging with Ken Walters, the railroad, commercial fishing, sold feed, the Dubuque Pac.
Survivors include his children, Alice (Duwane) Phelps of Colesburg, Arlus Keller of Bettendorf, Aggie Lammers (John Houston), Amy (Robie) Vonderhaar of Guttenberg, Henry Ludovissy, Dan (Kim) Ludovissy both of North Buena Vista, Harve (Mandy) Ludovissy of Guttenberg, Donna (Ken) Kuhlman of Colesburg, daughters-in-law, Karen Ludovissy of Luxemburg, Cheryl Simons of Dubuque; several grandchildren; and a brother-in-law: Dave (Mary) Breitbach of North Buena Vista.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary in 2021, sons: Phil and Lyndon; son-in-law, John Keller; daughter-in-law, Heather Ludovissy; brother: Clyde Ludovissy; in-laws: Ann Marie (Don) Jestel, Doris (Bob) Whelan, James (Mary Lou) Breitbach, Pat (Ruthie) Breitbach, Harvey (Shirley) Brimeyer.
