Following high school, David attended Iowa State University for 2 years. He then took a job at Purina Feeds in Anita, Iowa. After 2 years David decided on a career in law enforcement and entered the Iowa State Patrol Academy. Upon graduation he was assigned to Post 2 in Osceola, Ia.
