Barbara "Bonnie" K. Hunt

Barbara ‘Bonnie” Hunt, 82, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Bonnie was born April 30, 1943, the daughter of Bill and Dula Scherrman.

After graduating from Xavier High School in Dyersville, Bonnie resided in numerous states and countries. Bonnie adopted her son Issac in 1973 when she volunteered at an orphanage in Vietnam. Issac and his wife Lisa live in Los Angeles, CA. Her daughter Rebecca was born in 1975 when Bonnie lived in Iran. Today Rebecca and her two daughters, Megan and Dissi live in Zurick, Switzerland. Bonnie loved her time as a Peace Corp Volunteer in Jamaica 2002-2005.

She is survived by a son, Issac (Lisa) Hunt, daughter, Rebecca Hunt Balbako; 2 granddaughters Megan and Dissi Balbako, brothers: Don (Cookie), Scott and Joe (Shari) Scherrman; sister-in-law, BettyAnne, an uncle, Emmett (Ann) Scherrman.and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister Elizabeth, a brother Patrick, and a sister-in-law Sharon Scherrman.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice Care Initiatives of Waterloo, especially Maggie and MercyOne Dyersville Senior Care for loving care to Bonnie.

There will be no services at this time.
