Anthony A. Russ

HOPKINTON, IOWA

Anthony (Tony) A. Russ, 92, of Hopkinton, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa. Tony was born on February 6, 1934, in Kelly Kansas, to Henry and Veronica (Lahr) Russ. Tony and Alice Egloff were married on April 27, 1960, beginning a nearly 60-year loving partnership. Together they raised eight children in their Hopkinton home, where they lived for 47 years.

Tony dedicated 50 years to Swiss Valley Farms, building lasting relationships across Northeast Iowa through his fuel delivery route. Over the years, his customers became like extended family, growing to know and love him as much for his kindness as for his dependable service. His work ethic and loyalty to Swiss Valley were legendary, and he took great pride in providing for his family.

A lifelong Cubs fan, Tony faithfully declared each season, “This is the year!” His optimism was finally rewarded in 2016 when the Cubs won the World Series. In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering in the garage, gardening, reading Western novels on the porch and “resting his eyes” in the recliner. In recent years, he developed a love for jigsaw puzzles and could often be found spending hours each day working on one that always seemed to be in progress.

Tony’s greatest accomplishment was the beautiful and ever-growing family he and Alice built together. He understood that family life brings both great joy and deep pain, yet he never stopped loving. His capacity for forgiveness was one of his most enduring gifts and a lesson he left for all who knew him. An active parishioner of St. Luke's Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus, Tony's faith guided the way he lived and loved. Tony will be remembered for his enormous heart, unwavering faith, storytelling, off-key singing, mischievous eyes, and infectious grin. He was a tremendous gift to his family and all who knew him.

When Alice passed away in 2020, a part of Tony went with her. For nearly 60 years, she was his devoted companion and the heart of their home. Our family is forever grateful that, in the years that followed, he found comfort in the community he came to love at the Good Neighbor Home and in the compassionate staff who cared for him with such kindness and dignity in his final years.

Survivors include his eight children: Jim (Sandra) Russ of New Hampton, Julie (Dan) Zewen of Luxemburg, Dennis (Glenda Scicluna) Russ of Raisinville Township, MI, Alan (Kheuakham) Russ of American Canyon, CA, Jan Russ of Cedar Rapids, Rick (Lynn) Russ of Marion, Lisa (Steve) Pucelik of Traverse City, MI, Kevin (Kristy) Russ of Cedar Rapids, 23 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; his parents; and many beloved family members and friends.
