DYERSVILLE, IOWA
Alan Francis Goerdt, 75, of Dyersville, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Bickford of Marion in Marion, Iowa.
Alan was born on October 30, 1950, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota son of Al and Harriet (Koopman) Goerdt. He married Lori Poock December 26, 2000, in Jamaica.
He Graduated 1968 from Beckman High School where he played in a rock band with some friends and was a member of the State Champion baseball team. He then attended University of Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in botany. He owned and operated Season’s Best Restaurant and Hill Hardwood in Iowa City for several years. He would later relocate to Idaho and Washington where he eventually retired from another restaurant, Marble Mount Diner. He built a beautiful home in Cathlamet before returning to Iowa in June of 2025 to be close to family.
He was an amazing friend to many, who loved music, traveling, and fishing, the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago White Sox. He told stories and shared laughs and knowledge of the world and outdoors.
Survivors include his siblings: Inez (Dick) Bartlett, Leon Goerdt, Jean (Chuck) Cecil, Russell Goerdt; in-laws: Carol Goerdt, Marcia Goerdt; Lance Poock and Joe Gallina, Ed Longanecker III (Heather); father-in-law: Ed Longanecker; many nieces, nephews, lifelong friends; and first wife, Kathy Jones.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lori; parents, Al and Harriett Goerdt; siblings: Eileen, Earl, Glen; nephews, Mark and Alex; and a great-niece, Jayden.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
