Wallace Maynard Felland, age 97, passed away at the Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg, Iowa on November 25, 2016. Wally was the youngest child of Gunder K. and Martha (Fjeld) Felland. He was born on March 7, 1919 in a log cabin on his grandfathers farm in Worth County, Iowa. He was baptized at Beaver Creek Lutheran Church in Joice, Iowa. He attended country school and the Forest City High School. In World War II, Wally was part of the 34th Division ("Red Bulls"), 175th Field Artillery and participated in the invasion of North Africa. During his tour of duty (1941-1945), he was also stationed in Ireland and Italy. In the fall of 1945, he met Marjorie Stowe, who was an elementary teacher in Forest City. They married on June 5, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. Wally managed the Coast-to-Coast Hardware Store on the main street for many years. In 1977, Wally and Marj bought a furniture store that became Wallys Furniturea landmark business in Forest City until Wallys retirement in 1991. Wally served both his church and his community throughout his life. Wally was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran in Forest City, Iowa for over 80 years. He was a member of the Forest City Chamber of Commerce and served as a Chamber Ambassador for many years. He was an active member of the Forest City Golf Course and served on the Oakland Cemetery Board. Wally and Marj enjoyed entertaining, traveling, walking and golf. Wally continued to play golf well into his 90s, even hitting a bucket of balls in July. Wally was preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters, two brothers, and two nephews. He is survived by his wife Marjorie and their two daughters, Vicky Felland Payseur of Ankeny, IA and Sherry (Tim) Oliver of Guttenberg, IA, as well as four granddaughters, their husbands and four great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his sister-in-law Joanne Hanson plus five nephews and two nieces. Wally was truly a special man who by his positive attitude, friendliness and faith provided a shining example of a well-lived life.
