Vivian Margery Laura Meyer, 84, of Garnavillo, Iowa, died Friday November 8, 2013 at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. Vivian was born on the family farm north of Garnavillo to Edwin and Bernice (Schumacher) Milewsky on February 18, 1929. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Garnavillo where she remained a lifelong member. Vivian graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1946. She earned her teachers certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA in 1948 and taught two years in the Parkersburg School District. On June 1, 1950 Vivian was united in marriage to John C. Meyer of Elkader at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. Their union was blessed with four daughters. Vivian enjoyed time with her family, baking, gardening, and attending her daughters school events in the Garnavillo School District where she also worked a number of years as a teachers aid. She farmed the family farm with her husband until 1987 when they moved to 106 W. Watson in Garnavillo, where she resided until her death. Vivian remained a faithful member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday school. Over the years she had been a member and served in various officer roles of the Women of the ELCA and The Ladies Aid.
