Derek Allen Moser, Sr., age 47, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Central Iowa Health Center in Marshalltown, IA. He was born on December 16, 1968 in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of Larry and Carol (Krapfl) Moser. Derek grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School with the class of 1987. On October 1, 1987, Derek joined the U.S. Navy and served in Desert Storm, Iraq, Afghanistan, Malaysia & Singapore. Derek received his honorable discharge on September 30, 2007 after 20 years of service to his country. After his retirement from the Navy, Derek received his Bachelors degree Business/Arts. Derek was an avid hunter, fisherman and passionate about sports. He was also a committed member of the Clay-Gar American Legion Post #723. Derek was a loving and dedicated husband, father, son and grandfather. Derek had a contagious smile and influence on many left behind an incredible legacy. Derek will be dearly missed by those who loved him. Derek will be forever loved and cherished by his wife Yvonne; parents, Larry & Carol Moser; children, Derek Jr. Chad (Lani), Ginny (Saul), Kristen & Jeffery; grandchildren, Lydia, Lilliana, Nathalia and Sebastian and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Terri Skalsky and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
