William James "Jim" Jacobs, age 80, of Guttenberg, IA, died Friday, February 20, 2015, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. He was born on July 6, 1934 in Guttenberg, IA, the son of Walter and Charlotte (Aulwes) Jacobs. Jim received his education from the Guttenberg School where he graduated with the class of 1952. Following school, Jim served his country proudly in the United States Army. On July 17, 1959, Jim married Carol Schenke at the Zion Methodist Church near Colesburg. This union blessed them with five children. While in high school, Jim started working at the Guttenberg Post Office on his Saturdays performing custodial duties to sorting mail. Later Jim worked for 30 years for Meuser Lumber Company. After he retired from Meusers, Jim went back to work at the post office till he completely retired. Jim enjoyed his time in service, gardening and was an avid Northern Pike Fisherman. He was a 50 plus year member of the Masonic Lodge, the Commandery and he was also a proud Shriner. Jim is survived by his wife, Carol Jacobs; five children, Jeff Jacobs of Alexandria VA, Dan Jacobs of Melbourne FL, Doug Jacobs of Tucson AZ, Sue Jacobs of Guttenberg and Sally (Seth) Gilkes of Robins IA; two grandsons, Noah and Thomas Gilkes; sister, Mary Ford of Guttenberg IA; brother Walter (Sue) Jacobs of Laguna Beach CA; brother in law, Roger (Carol) Schenke of Ankeny and many other relatives and friends.
