Evelyn Louise (Stannard) Wilker, age 84, of Elkader, formerly of Garnavillo, IA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, February 3, 2011, at the Elkader Care Center. She was born the daughter of Orville and Anna (Christeleit) Stannard on August 7, 1926 in Wadena Iowa. Evelyn graduated from high school in Volga and got her teaching degree in Fayette. She taught in a single room country school. She started her nursing career in Elkader before transferring to the Guttenberg Care Center where she was a CNA for many years. On February 16, 1947, Evelyn was united in marriage with Vernon Wilker at St. Sebald Church Strawberry Point. To this union they were blessed with four sons. Evelyn was a member of TOPS, Ladies Aid and the Polka Club. She was very active with her church circle at St. Peters. Together Evelyn and Vernon enjoyed dancing, playing cards, traveling and fishing. She was known for being a fabulous joke teller and was delighted to spend time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and she looked forward to family gatherings. Evelyn will be greatly missed by her husband of 63 years, Vernon Wilker; four sons, Jimmie (Joan) Wilker of Guttenberg, Kenneth (Karen) Wilker of Saint Olaf, David (Cindy) Wilker of Elkader and Terry (Betty) Wilker of West Salem, Wis.; fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Orville Jr., Erma and Katherine.In Lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to 501 N Roosevelt St Garnavillo, IA 52049Visitation: Monday 3:00 - 7:00 P.M.
