We would like to tell you a little bit about our mother. Betty Joyce Moose "Granny" Born May 7, 1936, She lived life until April 9, 2017 Betty was the youngest of five children born to William and Blanch Moses of Monona IA. The Moses family lived and worked a farm about 2 miles south of the old Watson store. She talked frequently of the trek as kids that they would make across country to get to and from the country school they attended. She would talk with a smile of the times as children when they would get the chance to meet up and play with the neighbor kids. It was a simpler time. In 1953 she married Hubert Moose. Hubert and Betty together over the years raised five children. In 1959 they bought the family farm out North of Garnavillo where she worked hard to support the family and raise her kids. She lived on that farm in the same house to her very last day. She had no interest at all in moving to town. She was adamant about that to the point she would get grumpy by just talking about it. She was very independent. She still drove to Prairie twice a week to get her groceries. She mowed her own lawn and took good care of her home and family. Granny "Granny" as we all would come to call her worked for many years at the White Springs Supper Club in McGregor. She enjoyed that time to socialize with the ladies she worked with. She worked for a short time in the kitchen at the then Ioco station in Garnavillo IA. She enjoyed sewing. Many from the community would bring to her those projects. She could patch the holes in the knees of your blue jeans or could build you a boat tarp if asked. She loved to hunt mushrooms in the spring and pick wild berries in the summer. In her early days, come first frost once the corn was out she was a first rate coon hunter. She liked the fresh air and the peace of the deep timber. That is what I remember. Granny was preceded in death by her parents William and Blanch, her brother William JR., her husband Hubert and her son Dennis. Betty is survived by her two sisters; Shirley and Dolly and brother Willard, her two sons Randy and David her two daughters Debbie and Cathy. She had five grand children, Shawn, Cindy, Barb, Tim and Josh. And nine great grand children. She was loved and will be missed by all. Granny will be laid to rest Saturday April 22, 2017 at 10:00 A.M.near her parents at the Council Hill Cemetery east of Monona where she will forever, welcome your visits. Life is short, go in peace. Following her burial, the family will have a short celebration of life at the Luana Tavern in Luana IA. All are welcome. Mom loved their Friday night Cod fish dinner.
